Resumo

Human behavior, driven by the capitalist system and its consumerist logic, generated the need to take urgent measures to address serious environmental problems. Among these measures are Environmental Education (EA), which emerged as a way to alert people about the environmental impacts caused by human activities. Given the above, this dissertation has as main objective to analyze the role of EA from the implementation of the Common National Curricular Base (BNCC), having as reference the teaching of Geography in Elementary School II of the Municipal Education Network of Uberlândia (MG). In this sense, the present study is a bibliographic document, carried out using the document analysis script instrument. The bibliographic research took place from authors of books, articles, dissertations and theses that deal with the origin of environmental issues and EA through the teaching of Geography, as well as the discussions and measures taken by the International Conferences on the Environment promoted by the United Nations (UN). The documentary research addressed educational legislation prior to the BNCC, such as the Law of National Education Guidelines and Bases (LDB 9.394 / 1996), the National Curricular Guidelines (DCNs) and the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), which considered the importance of EA for the teaching and learning process; in addition to the analysis of the Uberlândia Municipal Education Plan (PME) and the Minas Gerais Reference Curriculum (CRMG). The final discussions detach how EA is being addressed in the Reference Action Plan of the Municipal Education Network of Uberlândia, a document built between 2018 and 2019, which will enable the implementation of BNCC and CRMG in the curriculum of the Municipal Education Network of Uberlândia a from 2020. In this context, the importance of EE for changing habits and attitudes of the whole society is emphasized, with the school being its main disseminator for the formation of critical and reflective subjects in the face of serious environmental problems.
