Abstract
The accelerated growth of cities happens most of the time in a disorderly way, and in some cases, it can benefit some classes of society, thus, it the importance of the action of urban public policies to seek to bring balance and benefit all parties involved in the urban space of a city. In the midst of this, it the influence of the Participative Municipal master plan in the planning and territorial ordering process. The theme of green areas is included in the master plan, but the attention given to these areas in some occasions is inferior to what such areas may represent for social and environmental issues. Given this fact, the research aims to carry out the mapping of these distributed green areas in the urban occupation mesh of the city of Catalão (GO), asking some questions such as the spatial destruction of these environments, if the term green area adopted by the City Hall of Catalão really fits in what refers to the literature and finally, if the city de Catalão is statistically within the standards required by the WHO in relation to the PAV (Porcentage of Green Areas) and the IAVHab (Index of Green Areas to Inhabitants). The adopted methodology consists of bibliographical research, where subjects such as the definition and benefits of green areas, the importance of urban planning on the subject, application of Remote Sensing and Geoprocessing techniques in the analysis of green areas were discussed. As a result, several cartographic materials were generated about the city of Catalão, which were crucial for the process of choosing public green areas, for discussing the spatial distribution and for carrying out the analysis of statistical data from the PAV and the IAVHab.
