Abstract

The present study is inserted in the line of research: Reading, Education, Teaching of the Mother Tongue and Sciences of Nature and has as general objective to problematize the work with the newspaper in the school from the reports of the teachers of the Sth Year classes of the Initial Years of the Elementary School in the city of Caldas Novas and understand the challenges and possibilities of this didactic resource for the improvement of reading and writing. The specific objectives consist of: I- Observing the didactic strategies that teachers of Sth Year classes use to improve reading and writing. 2- Reflect on how teachers of Sth grade classes in the city of Caldas Novas explore the newspaper to study textual genres. 3. Listen to teachers about teaching reading and writing based on the diversity of textual genres. The methodology adopted is qualitative, we applied a questionnaire and a semi -structured interview in person. The main authors who contributed to the theoretical foundation are: Marcuschi (2008), Soares (2020), Rossi (2010), Faria (2013), Anhussi (2009), Santos (2014) and others. The study was carried out in the city of Caldas Novas Goiás, three municipal schools were selected because they serve in the Early Years of Elementary School modality and the research participants are teachers of Sth Year classes. The theme of this study emerged from an experience I had in the construction of a school newspaper with my students, which was a challenging project, but with a positive result in the work with textual genres and in the improvement of reading and writing. The present study discusses the challenges and possibilities of the newspaper at school, as a didactic resource based on teachers’ reports to work on the students’ reading and writing development, at the end of the literacy cycIe.As the results achieved, we noticed that teachers have risked little to develop teaching strategies that contribute to the development of reading and writing, we also noticed that most teachers have contact with journalistic texts, they recognize the importance of promoting circulation in the classroom. class, of real texts, which are part of the students' daily life and that the newspaper is a powerful instrument to work with the diversity of textual genres and that the experiences lived by them with the newspaper, provided positive results such as the improvement in the students' vocabulary and with better arguments to produce texts, also facilitating the work with grammar, provoking a state of euphoria and curiosity in the students, leading them to raise several hypotheses about the production and composition of a newspaper. However, the data revealed that the printed and digital newspaper is currently absent from classrooms, mainly attributed to the adverse period produced by the pandemic, which resulted in significant delays in the development of reading and writing, putting pressure on teachers to make a recovery of skills. in the students' literacy process, with evidence of the use of traditional literacy techniques that are reduced to the study of single words and phrases, “simple texts” and reading aloud for evaluative purposes.
