Abstract

Family farmers encounter difficulties in accessing land credits and public policies, in the acquisition of inputs, in market competition, among other specific problems, that can be found according to production demand, the same goes for the settlers who adhered to this family production model in the Assentamento Olga Benário in Ipameri (GO). Associations emerge as a facilitating path to overcome these inequalities. Thus, this qualitative research sought to understand how ASCRAF and ASPROAB enable the territorial development of the Assentamento Olga Benário and guarantee work and income generation to the settlers through the public policies PRONAF, PNAE and PAA. The settlement, created in 2005, went through ideological and political conflicts between part of the settlers and the MST after the creation of the Margarida Alves Collective. With the support of the CPT, families established new forms of collective work, this time, through the creation of associative organizations; first with the Associação dos Produtores Rurais do Assentamento Olga Benário (ASPROAB) in 2008, and later, in 2010 with the founding of the Associação Camponesa Regional da Agricultura Familiar (ASCRAF). These associations located are in the territory of the settlement and function due to the direct work of the families. The research is composed of a bibliographic and theoretical survey of authors who discuss the relation between territory and power for the understanding of the issue of social movements and the internal conflicts that occurred in the settlement; it is important to bring to debate authors who discuss family farming and public policies linked to this mode of production; it is also necessary to understand the functioning and the importance of associations for the social and economic development of families; finally, we sought authors who had already researched the Assentamento Olga Benário. The state of the art has methodological importance for the research since it will make up for the deficit caused by the lack of field research that could not take place due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Another way to mitigate the lack of field research is the use of data collected from governmental websites such as INCRA, Portal da Transparência da União, IBGE, IMB, among others that were necessary to carry out the research.
