Abstract
Historically, in Brazil, there have been occasional movements towards the admission of education as a process of formation that also contemplates the political aspect, which implies, in general, in adopting as a basis the progressive idea of education for transformation. This is the structure on which the country developed (slavery, patriarchal and agrarian), which largely explains this trajectory. In these terms, teaching, as a profession, encounters barriers in its concretion, barriers that are potentiated when we observe that it is the career choice more and more directed to young people from the less favored classes and, above all, women. Thinking objectively about this characteristic, which is to be an option of professionalization for young people, we conducted a research whose general objective is to analyze the understanding of female students of the pedagogical course on politics, and the gaps in the training process that favored such a thought. The theoretical referential brings together the history of education and discussions about the professionalization of teachers. Methodologically, we accomplished a qualitative research, which had as instrument for production of data the semi-structured interview, accomplished with four (04) students of the Pedagogy Course of the Federal University of Catalão (UFCAT). The preliminary results indicate that there is a lack of knowledge of the future teachers about the definitions of political currents, because there are not, in their trajectories, experiences that allow them to think about basic issues, such as participation in decision-making activities of student councils. Another factor points out that the University itself still does not contribute enough to the initial training of young people or to the training of young teachers when the issue is the relationship between politics and education. It is also observed that the curricular grid, up to the present moment, has limitations with specific subjects on the theme of politics and education, not to mention that we still have limitations in terms of funds to hire teachers, conditions that are extremely deepened at this moment by the current government.
