Abstract
In recent decades, deaf education has undergone significant transformations. The strengthening of the proposal for bilingual education, with Language Brazilian Sign (Libras) and Portuguese in written form as languages of instruction, has led to readjustments in education systems. In particular, in early childhood education, “including” methods that do not consider the linguistic and cultural singularities of deaf people have been questioned regarding their ability to promote the development and learning of these children. Despite advances made in various parts of the country, the difficulty of several educational institutions in dealing with this new reality is still notable. Thus, the objective of this research is to propose and analyze teaching practices, involving the acquisition of language and visual literacy, for deaf children in early childhood education, in a collaborative partnership with leading teachers, support professionals and/or support interns/monitors in the network municipal education department in a municipality in the southeast of Goiás. Critical-collaborative action research was adopted as a methodology, which proposes intervention, reflection and transformation of reality inserted in the investigation process. As partial results of the research, the absence of a bilingual education proposal at the research partner institution stands out; Added to this is the difficulty of understanding the role of deaf professionals in the development and learning of deaf children; the development of bilingual teaching materials, in partnership with research participants, showed interesting resources to promote the acquisition of language and visual literacy; finally, critical- collaborative action research, with a set of situations of reflection on action, allowed us to promote important changes in the conceptions and practices of research participants. Therefore, this research is expected to contribute to teacher training and the advancement of bilingual education.
