Abstract

The energy context in which Brazil is included requires assertive actions in the management of electric power in organizations that have a considerable high consumption of this input. To reach this goal, it is extremely important to promote more studies of expenditures and about the consumption of electric power. This study aims to analyze some suggestions for reducing expenses with electricity from the analysis of different scenarios in a case study, to achieve greater economic and energy efficiency. The methods used start from the analysis of the historical energy expenditure and consist of a technical-economic viability analysis for six possible solutions for the reduction of electric power expenditure. The main results reveal that, considering the current situation, the contracted demands could be increased aiming at minimizing the expenses with demand and its exceedance. The results also show that the green modality is the best option for rating frames and that the installation of a capacitor bank would provide savings with penalties due to excess reactive power, with an estimated return on investment of 1.06 years. Therefore, the results show the technical and economic feasibility of adhering to the free market, as well as the feasibility of installing solar generation, with paybacks of 0.14 and 6.4 years, respectively. The results also show that the payback analysis view is limited, and other factors of definitions should be analyzed to define the best solutions to be implemented. In addition, the results showed that, for the current economic scenario of high interest rates fees, and considering a Minimum Rate of Attractiveness (MRA) of 11.75% p. y., the generation of energy by diesel generator during the rush hours showed to be economically unfeasible for the economic point of view.
