Potencial geoturístico de quedas d'água no município de Guarda-Mor/MG: estudo de caso da Cachoeira da Usina

Abstract

The municipality of Guarda-Mor, in Minas Gerais, has significant geotourism potential, especially in its waterfalls, with emphasis on the Usina Waterfall. This study aimed to investigate the geotourism potential of these waterfalls, highlighting the characteristics of the Usina Waterfall through a survey of geodiversity and the valorization of local geoheritage. The research seeks to analyze the aspects of geodiversity, identify the relationship between sociocultural and economic characteristics and public management, in addition to proposing structural and organizational measures to promote geotourism in the region. The methodology included a bibliographic survey, based on theoretical references that address concepts of geodiversity, geoheritage and geotourism. The field analysis included a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the elements that make up the geotourism potential of the Usina Waterfall, using the method proposed by Brilha (2015). These methods allowed for an in-depth understanding of the interaction between the natural, sociocultural and economic elements that make up the municipality's tourism landscape. The main results highlight the Usina Waterfall in a unique position in relation to the other waterfalls in Guarda-Mor and the region, as a fascinating resource with geological and geomorphological characteristics of great scientific and educational value. In addition, the waterfall has a strong visual appeal and potential for sustainable tourism practices. However, the need for adequate infrastructure, greater publicity and strategic planning was identified to fully exploit the location's tourism potential. The valorization of the geodiversity of the Usina Waterfall can promote environme ntally responsible economic development, strengthen local identity and stimulate environmental conservation. Thus, geotourism emerges as an effective tool to combine environmental preservation and regional development.
