Abstract

The healthcare sector has a wide range of equipment with advanced technologies, implying the need for efficient maintenance management to guarantee availability, quality, and safety. In small hospitals, maintenance management is a great challenge, mainly due to the absence of qualified and dedicated labor for maintenance activities, so the application of support tools and performance indicators is of paramount importance. However, a lack of literature focusing on this group of institutions was identified, reinforcing the need for studies to fill this gap. Therefore, a case study was carried out in a small health establishment to identify how maintenance management is carried out and what are the main points of attention and needs. In this way, the results showed that the outsourcing of maintenance can meet the demands with a good cost-benefit, but the institution lacks greater control in management. In summary, the present study proposed a management system for the maintenance of medical and hospital equipment aimed at controlling and monitoring outsourced activities, in addition to the development of performance indicators according to the specifics of the facility. With this, the development of this work made it possible to complement the literature on small hospitals in addition to offering a system that can be used free of charge by hospital managers as a support tool for conscious decision-making and performance monitoring, ensuring the proper functioning of the equipment.
