Abstract

Early Childhood Education is a stage of great importance for children, and the teacher who carries out the pedagogical practice with the children needs to have both initial and ongoing quality training. Given the Brazilian scenario in relation to this stage, some questions have arisen about continuing education and its implementation. Considering the current context of Early Childhood Education and the perspectives surrounding continuing teacher training, the research poses the following problem: Does the continuing training of Early Childhood Education teachers that has been developed in the municipal education network of UberlândiaMG meet the needs and demands of the teachers who work in Early Childhood Education and are they in line with current legislation? The general objective of the research in question is to identify, characterize and analyze the continuing education of Early Childhood Education teachers in the Uberlândia municipal education network and the relationship with current public policies on continuing education, from the point of view of the teachers and the group of trainers from the Julieta Diniz Municipal Center for Educational Studies and Projects (CEMEPE). Specifically, the aim of the research is to: 1) identify the main aspects covered in the continuing training of teachers in the municipality of Uberlândia in terms of content, form and the formats most used; 2) analyze the vision of the trainers and teachers on continuing training, as well as their receptiveness to the training received, in order to point out the contributions and limitations. In order to meet the proposed objectives, a qualitative study was carried out using the historical- dialectical method. The instruments used to collect data were a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview carried out with 15 Early Childhood Education teachers from the Uberlândia Municipal Education Network and five CEMEPE trainers. The teachers report challenges in their teaching career, related to work overload, full classes, social and salary devaluation, but point out that the experience of continuing education offered by the municipal network of Uberlândia-MG, contributes to the development of their pedagogical practices. The trainers report on the process of organizing the training courses, the regulations that govern them and some of the themes of recent years, always pointing out that in this process they take into account the needs of the training teachers. Thus, we can conclude that the continuing education for Early Childhood Education teachers that has been developed in the municipal education network of Uberlândia-MG meets the needs and demands of the teachers who work in Early Childhood Education and is in line with current legislation.
