Resumo
The use of Poker as a pedagogical tool and its implications in high school is the theme of this
dissertation, which dialogues with the authors and subjects researched about the process of
recognition and importance of this game as a teaching instrument of Probability. This research
is a qualitative, case-study, which aims to investigate the contributions of the game of poker
to facilitate the learning of combinatorial content and probability in high school, in order to
answer the following guiding question: How can Poker assist in the teaching of Probability and
in the students' understanding of the results obtained? Initially a bibliographical research was
carried out, followed by a field research that took place in a public school in Patos de Minas /
MG. Participants were students of a second-year high school class, in which the researcher
was the class teacher in the class. Data collection was performed through questionnaires,
observations and activities developed with students in the classroom. Records were made by
field journal entries and photos. The application in the classroom began in July and ended in
September, the analysis of the results occurred from September to October, and so the author
and researcher went on to finalize the written part. Lectures were given on Combinatorial
Analysis and Probability, on basic poker rules and practical classes, teaching students to
combine mathematical teachings with the game. In the end, we saw the benefits of using the
game of poker in Probability teaching, such as better understanding of content, greater
participation of students during classes, improvement of interpersonal relationships, and how
the game can develop in students the ability to think, to reflect, to make decisions taking into
account the probabilities involved, to reflect on their and others' procedures, to outline
strategies and overcome their deficiencies.
