Resumo
The relations between man and nature occur from the beginning of humanity, this relationship has
undergone numerous transformations over time. They have been adapting to socioeconomic
interests and technological advances, and this process has brought many benefits to society, but
many damages to nature. As a consequence, landscapes have also been changing over time as a
result of the history of land use and occupation, as they are also records of this process between
man and nature. Considering this fact, the high course of the Jordan River Basin in Araguari (MG)
was chosen as the object of study, taking into account all the dynamics that exist in the area, such
as agricultural activities, energy and tourism potential. In this sense, we use this clipping to
understand the dynamics of land use and occupation in this part of the basin. For that, we used a
temporal cut with the use of land use and land use maps of 1984, 1994 and 2013. What facilitated
the understanding of this dynamic between man and the environment in which he lives, together
with the changes resulting from this process, the geoprocessing tools were very important to
achieve the objective of this work. The use of watersheds as an object of analysis and planning is
one of the most effective ways for this type of analysis. As a result, processes of soil degradation,
silting of water courses and intensive removal of native vegetation were identified. The proposal is
that this work can subsidize actions that minimize the impacts and improve the land use and
occupation of the upper reaches of the Jordan.
