Sustainable development brings to light the effects of the relationship between society and the environment. The understanding of sustainability must include three important aspects: social, economic and environmental, where the three spheres develop and interact harmoniously with each other. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have important roles in the conception of thoughts and opinions, being fundamental instruments for the expansion of sustainable thinking, acting on this theme in different scenarios: educational, administrative and managerial. In order to recognize and classify universities in terms of sustainability criteria, the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking was created in 2010, at the initiative of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Faculdade de Engenharia Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Civil Estruturas e Construção Civil. Conteúdo Público which establishes criteria for the classification of universities, giving credit to institutions that have sustainable initiatives. The Brazilian Environmental Agenda Program in Public Administration (A3P), governed by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), has as its principles the insertion of socio-environmental criteria in regimental activities, which range from a change in investments, purchases and contracting of services by institutions, the proper management of waste and natural resources and improvement in the quality of life in the work environment. Combining the two initiatives, this research aimed to propose a Sustainable Management Plan (SPM) for HEIs and apply it in a case study, serving as a model for Brazilian universities that wish to fit into the Sustainable University (SU) model with the Federal University of Catalão (UFCAT) chosen as a case study. As a result, it can be seen that UFCAT presents good sustainable initiatives, having adopted the A3P program in July 2022 and already promoting specific actions towards the adequacy of sustainable practices. In the framework as a US, in view of the diagnosis applied, it is clear that within the current reality, it would occupy, if it were registered in the 2021 ranking, the 750th position, out of 956 participating universities.
