Abstract
Excessive water consumption and the inefficiency of building systems in public buildings represent significant challenges to sustainability and resource management. Despite the importance of the topic, there is still a scarcity of studies that integrate quantitative data and user perception regarding water use in university residences. This gap motivated the present research, which aimed to analyze the performance of cold water (SPAF) and hot water (SPAQ) building systems at Moradia Universitária do Cerrado (UFCAT) through consumption monitoring, waste identification, and the application of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE). The methodology adopted a mixed approach, combining: (i) building inspections, (ii) real-time telemetry measurements, (iii) statistical analysis of consumption (cold and hot water), and (iv) application of questionnaires to residents for sociodemographic and satisfaction analysis. The results revealed high consumption patterns in some apartments, leaks identified via telemetry, and consumption above the national average (L/person/day). POE showed that dissatisfaction with water pressure and failures in hydraulic systems impact usage. Corrective interventions contributed to a reduction in consumption in specific units. It is concluded that the combination of monitoring technology and listening to users is effective in improving water management in public buildings, serving as a basis for institutional policies for rational water use.
