Abstract

Social media has gained a large number of users worldwide, becoming important platforms for social interactions, as well as for sharing news and advertisements. Nowadays, being connected and active on a social network often implies recognition and existence in the contemporary world. In this context, these digital media have enormous social and political potential. This paper presents a qualitative analysis of twelve fake news pieces collected on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, after the conclusion of the 2022 Brazilian presidential campaign. The data collection was based on four predetermined thematic axes, considering the narratives most mobilized against candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva: anti-communist discourse, anti-system rhetoric, rejection of the so-called "gender ideology," and defense of religious values. The objective is to reflect on how these fake news, based on this sample, may have been used to intensify hostility towards the Workers' Party (PT) and, consequently, favor the re-election of Jair Bolsonaro. The research is bibliographic and documentary in nature, grounded in authors such as Gomes and Dourado (2019), Recuero and Gruzd (2019), D'Ancona (2018), Mascaro (2022), Traverso (2023), Motta (2018, 2020), among others.
