Abstract
This thesis has the general objective of investigating the impacts of the pandemic on teaching and learning process through the analysis of assessments present in the speeches of Basic Education teachers and students, in Catalão-GO. The corpus analyzed here was extracted from semi- structured interviews, carried out with seven (7) teachers and twenty-seven (27) students from the public education network, Elementary School 2 and/or High School, in the city of Catalão-GO, who experienced the challenges in teaching-learning processes during Emergency Remote Teaching, adopted as a result of the pandemic caused by COVID-19. These interviews were recorded and transcribed. Then, the corpus was submitted to the WordSmith Tools 4.0 computational tool, used to assist in quantitative analysis during the categorization of the data collected. The theoretical basis is based on the postulates of Halliday (2014), Martin and White (2005), Almeida (2010), Barbara and Macêdo (2009), among others, about Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), the Appraisal System, and more specifically the Attitude subsystem with regard to Affection, Judgment and Appreciation. The results of this study, obtained from the analysis of these evaluations expressed by the participants, positive and negative evaluations regarding education in times of pandemic, show that the impacts were profound. Despite the teachers' dedication to learning how to use the platforms and all the resources that technology had to offer for mediating remote classes and the help they provided to students, despite the efforts of most students to learn, to use the technology, the teaching-learning process during remote teaching was compromised and had a return, causing a decline in students' knowledge level. It is believed that this research will serve as a basis for debates in the area of Brazilian education in relation to emergency remote teaching, teacher training, Information and Communication Technologies, resulting in academic and social benefits for both the teacher and the student.
