Abstract
In the slaughter of cattle, residues are generated that have neither a profitable use nor a final reuse, only storage in stabilization ponds for later disposal in nature. This dissertation proposes to analyze the effect of using these slaughterhouse residues, which are the green line (stomach waste) and the red line (residual blood) in the anaerobic co-digestion process using bovine waste as substrate for the reactor, thus verifying its physicochemical characteristics and the results obtained in relation to methane (CH4) production. The study of the reactor was carried out with the following analyses: pH, chemical oxygen demand – COD, biochemical oxygen demand – BOD, total alkalinity, volatile acids, total solids, total phosphor, total nitrogen and methane production with the Specific Methanogenic Activity (SMA) test. It was found that the mixture of the green line with the manure had the best yield in methane production, producing 623mL of CH4, the red line with the manure had a production of 246mL of CH4 and the manure diluted with water obtained a production of 201mL of CH4, both using the dilution of 45% additive or water and 55% pure manure. It can be said that the use of slaughterhouse waste as green and red line, can be used to improve the production of biogas and the increase in the speed of start of production in laboratory scale reactors.
