Resumo

The purpose of this research was to understand the representations of indigenous peoples in Brazilian History textbooks, especially in high school basic education, from the perspective of an interdisciplinary discourse with Anthropology. We raised as a problem, the possibility of anthropological concepts to subsidize the discussions of History about indigenous peoples. We analyzed two of the largest publishers in didactic collections of History and we emphasize that, even after the implementation of Law 11.645/08 in Brazil, it is possible to identify that the stereotyped approach to the Indians was little modified. The history and culture of these peoples are scarcely worked on in the textbook, and, when they are, they appear in a uniform, outdated way and with wrong data. In this way, we propose a pedagogical material based on a dialogue with anthropology, which helps and supports the teacher's work to better deal with the confrontations available in the books. Ending the invisibility of indigenous people in the classroom is an attempt to perceive and affirm the contemporaneity of these peoples in textbooks and also to approach these societies and cultures, understanding them in their own terms.
