Resumo

This research named “The morpho-lexical study of proverbs in Tewe language and its correspondence (or non-correspondence) strategies in Portuguese language used in Brazil” focuses on the study of the interface between two fields of Theoretical and Descriptive Linguistics (lexical morphology and semantic). The research aimed to study the lexical morphology between Tewe language and the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil. Tewe is a Bantu language mostly spoken in Mozambique, Manica province, with code S.13b, in the classification of Guthrie (1967-71). Beyond describing the morphological structure of proverbs of these languages, we also intend, to identify and analyze the strategies of correspondence (or non-correspondence) of the proverbs of those two languages, based in their semantic-cultural processing (meaning and teaching). After that, we want, in future, collect more datas to elaborate a bilingual dictionary of proverbs (tewe-Portuguese) to contribute in the study of the languages of Mozambique, and in the bilingual education of this country. The bibliographic research, the oral collect of tewe proverbs, recorded digitally with the native speakers of this language, and the bibliographic collection of the Portuguese proverbs, were the basic methods of this research. It was nine (9) recordings of conversations with the same number of participants included in this research, with native speakers of the tewe language, who provided us one hundred and forty-nine (149) expressions that constituted the corpus of this work. From this number of expression, we selected fifty-nine (59) proverbs to compose our data, which we confronted with proverbs from Portuguese of Brazil selected from the book “Provérbios em Goiás” of Mota (1974). Ratifying our hypotheses, we find that the criterion used to describe the morphological structure of proverbs of those two languages was completely different, since they presented different morphological structures. The tewe is an agglutinating language and Portuguese, flexional language. Considering that the proverb is a phraseology that tends to be a repository of knowledge to be transmitted to other people, with lesson character, and searching for the relation between the languages and the cultures that they convey, we identified three (3) levels of lexicultural correspondence of proverbs: seven (7) proverbs corresponded partially, thirty-four (34) with of conceptual correspondence, and eighteen (18) without corresponding.
