Abstract

Thermal comfort, besides the psychophysiological well-being related to environmental thermal conditions, is directly linked to productivity and safety in the workplace. In this context, the adoption of bioclimatic architecture principles emerges as an approach that offers more sustainable solutions to achieve thermal comfort. However, making well-founded decisions requires a deep understanding of the thermal properties of materials, surrounding fluid temperatures, and current regulations. Therefore, a calculation spreadsheet was designed to assist in this decision-making process, ensuring thermal comfort in accordance with regulatory standards and employing bioclimatic principles. The spreadsheet considers thermal transmittance, thermal capacity, thermal delay, solar factor, opening area, transparent element area, and suitable bioclimatic strategies for summer and winter seasons in Brazil's bioclimatic zones. For this purpose, the spreadsheet was tested and validated. Through the entered data, it is possible to determine whether a building will be able to provide thermal comfort without relying on the use of air conditioning systems by using preconceived materials in standards, studless panels, or sealing blocks.
