Resumo
Agricultural activities have always been the basis of the economy of the municipality of Monte Alegre de Minas. With regard to the production of pineapple, the history of this crop in the county began in the 1940s, by a natural producer of Caicó (RN). Since then, production began to expand in the city. The 1980s was the peak period of production. The city was recognized nationally as the "National Pineapple Capital" because he had an annual output of 149 million harvested. However, in the late 1990s, this production began to decline, due to several factors such as the cost of production, lack of incentives, the insertion of cane sugar in the Minas Triangle, the cultivation of soybeans and corn. And with that, many producers stopped the cultivation of fruit, they were getting more profit planting other crops than with the actual cultivation of pineapple. Even with decreased production, pineapple cultivation in Monte Alegre de Minas caused a (re) productive organization in the city. Thus, this research aims to understand the reproductive strategies of family farmers pineapple farmers, faced with socio-spatial and economic transformations in Monte Alegre de Minas (MG). The methodological procedures that bolstered the research were focused on theoretical review in theses, dissertations, books and articles that address the theme of research, and source data at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the completion of fieldwork with observation, photographic records and interviews. Thus, we found that, despite all the difficulties, farmers continue resisting and (re) exist in their properties, facing obstacles that surround them. Family farmers pineapple producers in Monte Alegre de Minas are an example. Even under pressure from insertion of monocultures in the city, persist in cultivating pineapple and continue this tradition.
