The pursuit of energy efficiency and thermal comfort in educational buildings has become increasingly relevant given the rising energy consumption and performance requirements established by Brazilian standards. This study aimed to evaluate the thermal performance of a multi-story educational building located in a hot and dry climate through computational simulations considering different envelope alternatives. Four scenarios were compared: the base model (without intervention), a vegetated façade, external walls made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels, and the application of a ventilated double-skin façade. The methodology involved geometric modeling in SketchUp using the Euclid plug-in and thermoenergetic simulations performed in EnergyPlus, based on local climatic data, occupancy parameters, internal loads, and the thermal properties of materials, in accordance with ABNT NBR 15575-1:2024 and INI-C (2022). The results indicated that both the EPS and the vegetated façade did not contribute to improved thermal comfort, showing even higher indoor temperatures compared to the base model. In contrast, the ventilated double-skin façade provided better performance, reducing operative temperature by up to 1 °C and decreasing HVAC energy consumption by 2.84%. Additionally, the integration of photovoltaic panels into the ventilated façade was estimated to supply approximately 53% of the building’s annual energy demand, configuring a highly efficient hybrid strategy. It is concluded that this solution represents a viable and replicable alternative for the design and retrofit of educational and institutional buildings located in hot and dry climates, combining passive strategies and active energy generation to enhance thermal and energy efficiency.
