Resumo
The main objective of this research is to identify the monster and its relationship with the human race, exposing the multiple faces of the monster and humanity. Therefore, our study investigates the construction of the monstrous in the work Dawn (1987), by the African- American writer Octavia E. Butler and how this monster is interconnected with our reality. The research takes place in the bibliographic-documental character and focuses on the figure of the monster within the strand of the fantastic mode known as Science Fiction. The investigation also seeks to show how the monster's pluralities and their otherness do not fit into the sociocultural norms of our society. The alien character in Dawn is important, because it exposes marginalizing discourses that have already occurred and that still occur in our civilization. We were guided by theoretical support such as Mary Douglas (1966), Jeffrey Jerome Cohen (2000), Julio Jeha (2007), among others.
