Saúde de Corpo e Alma: uma análise léxico-cultural

Abstract

This research aimed to promote a linguistic analysis, especially in the lexical domain, on the theme of integral human health, based on the analysis of lexical units organized in the Rational System of Concepts by Hallig and Wartburg (1963). We initially sought to analyze, through the lexical units inventoried in the radio program Saúde de Corpo e Alma (2017-2019), the positions of experts regarding the health of the body and soul in nine editions of the program under study. Due to the characteristics of this study and the text under analysis, we chose to transcribe the oral corpus. To this end, we developed transcription criteria congruent with the objectives of this study. The lexical inventory process was carried out using the WordSmith Tools computer program (SCOTT, 2007), based on Berber Sardinha (2004, 2009). Soon after, we verified how teachers, students and employees of the stricto sensu Postgraduate Programs (PPGs) at the Federal University of Catalão (UFCAT) perceive the relationship between the health of the body and soul, through the application of questionnaires, enabling reflections about the search for quality of life today, although it is not the object of lexical analysis. And, finally, we reflect on how lexical uses reveal practices and beliefs of the community to which they are linked. The central hypothesis of this work is that the aspects that deal with the health of the body and soul are closely interrelated and are differentiated in the lexicon of the radio program under study, which deals with this topic. For linguistic studies, we are based on Benveniste (2006), Fiorin (2013) and others; As for the lexical ones, we resort, for example, to Biderman (1981, 1996, 2001a, 2001b), Oliveira (2001), Vilela (1979). Reflections on health are based on guidelines and reports from the World Health Organization (2010, 2017, 2022) and the Pan American Health Organization (2018, 2022), in dialogue with authors such as Fontes (2016), Morales and Murillo (2015), Otani and Barros (2011) and others. The analysis confirmed that the lexical units of the radio program reveal beliefs and social and cultural practices defended by experts, such as: regular physical activity, healthy eating, meditation, improvement of some virtues, such as gratitude and compassion, self-care, self-knowledge and active exercise of spirituality. In turn, the responses to the questionnaires showed that the UFCAT Postgraduate Program audience is concerned about the quality of their health, despite not yet practicing self-care frequently.
