Abstract

This work proposed the use of TiO2 to act as an adsorbent for copper (II) ions in aqueous solution. The study included obtaining the material using the titanium peroxide decomposition method under mild pressure and temperature conditions without the use of sophisticated apparatus. Adsorption tests were conducted on a laboratory scale using a standard solution of copper (II) ions and a controlled reaction medium. The synthesized TiO2 was structurally characterized by XRD showing the crystalline phases anatase and rutile. Morphological characterization by SEM revealed the presence of agglomerated. The variation in pH causes changes in the surface of the adsorbent and in the species present in the adsorbate, and in this work the pH of the medium had an important influence on the adsorptive capacity of the adsorbent. At pH 7, 100% removal of Cu (II) ions in solution was achieved.
